Why 2008 -
Text document
Why started off as a generative excercise in the guise of an infantile diary, of sorts with an agenda to cross examine both rationale and reasoning. The artist initiates an exhaustive conversation with the self, mimicking that of a childs insessant questioning about the world (notoriously towards it's mother) and soon, prose detailing subjects as disparate as chalk and cheese comes into being.

Why?
It is more like the luck of the Irish with an accomplice in the form of a niggling distraction. Like a buzzing in the ears when you’re trying to hear the operator saying your bank statement, or the options on an automated phone menu. When it matters, there is always something to fuck you up. (Press # to hear this again)
Why?
Because you’ll always need to hear it again, without fail. Otherwise it is down to that wild instinct again, a right random stab in the dark.
Why?
Due to you not having all the required information. For example, when you have a large Jigsaw puzzle (1000+ pieces) and you get all the way to the end to find that Vermeer’s Girl with a pearl earring doesn’t have a pearl. She is then just some ginger with a headscarf…

The most distinguishable feature is excluded. That doesn’t mean to say an educated individual cannot deduce the missing characters in the word ‘B**stard’. (I spell it with a double ‘s’ apparently)
She is still the same peasant girl with a coy glance over her shoulder at the viewer; just she is minus the bling. The image now however, is an incomplete version; an edit, an almost, a letdown. No, it is just not the same. It is like when your mother buys you the infamous No Frills brand chocolate finger biscuits, when all you really want is a KIT KAT.

Why?
That always happens, doesn’t it? I mean, when someone mentions something, or use a particular word that seems to stand out from all the other insignificant others they are spouting; it stands out for a reason. (Probably because you have affinity with a fricative, or you just happen to adore the word ‘crisp’)

I am interested in language flaws, not floors, and my overall interest in the friction between speech and written language is probably coinciding with my understanding of other visual and communicative languages. I have always been taken by the idea of authorship, ideas and notions and theorems, etc.
I can sepll grate and my good is grammar.
I constantly misspell and misuse words, all the thyme. I also like the idea of ‘proof reading’ on account of your brain not detecting fairly obvious errors in the same way a good friend or a spell checking codec in a word processor would.
Why?
A second opinion. I want to know what others may think on a subject. Going at something from one direction is not at all enlightening – if anything, the available information will be just a fragment of the whole package and thus, like us looking at a cuboid from face on and close up; if we utilize our friends who are perhaps figuratively situated at a different angle, sat observing the same subject from another direction, whilst eating cake and making a mess, then perhaps, when they finally stop munching and are able to tell you that it has apexes and numerous faces, and you may learn that there are other colours and textures and other information involved – as opposed to the plain square that will be visible to us at first, conceited glance. ‘More than meets the eye’ should be extended to more than meets the single eye.
This brings me to think of some inbuilt dysfunctional aspect, that we sometimes just happen to be content with not knowing everything- this can be enough to get us by, on a need to know basis. In a sense, we necessitate genuinity.
