"The Lombard Method staged a wildly ambitious show in which they invited similarly overactive organisations from across the country to contribute a slice of their thoughtful programmes."

- Laura Mclean-Ferris, The Independent

The Lombard Method is many things. Functioning primarily as a large communal studio with flexible project spaces, the objective of the group of young directors is to develop individual practice through critical dialogue and group interaction and to engage with other artists through a programme of residencies, exhibitions, and events. A lot more Info can be found here: The Lombard Method

		<description>Why 2008 -
Text document

Why started off as a generative excercise in the guise of an infantile diary of sorts. With no agenda other than to entertain the provoked pattern and cross examine both rationale and reasoning, the artist initiates an exhaustive conversation with the self. Mimicking that of a child's insessant questioning about the world (notoriously towards its mother) quite quickly and on repeated occasions / attempts, subjects as disparate as chalk and cheese are pondered over.

[...]

Why?
It is more like the luck of the Irish with an accomplice in the form of a niggling distraction. Like a buzzing in the ears when you’re trying to hear the operator saying your bank statement, or the options on an automated phone menu. When it matters, there is always something to fuck you up. (Press # to hear this again)
Why?
Because you’ll always need to hear it again, without fail. Otherwise it is down to that wild instinct again, a right random stab in the dark.
Why?
Due to you not having all the required information. For example, when you have a large Jigsaw puzzle (1000+ pieces) and you get all the way to the end to find that Vermeer’s Girl with a pearl earring doesn’t have a pearl. She is then just some ginger with a headscarf…
Why?
The most distinguishable feature is excluded. That doesn’t mean to say an educated individual cannot deduce the missing characters in the word ‘B**stard’. (I spell it with a double ‘s’ apparently)
She is still the same peasant girl with a coy glance over her shoulder at the viewer; just she is minus the bling. The image now however, is an incomplete version; an edit, an almost, a letdown. No, it is just not the same. It is like when your mother buys you the infamous No Frills brand chocolate finger biscuits, when all you really want is a KIT KAT.

Further excerpts from ongoing text:

[...]

Why?
That always happens, doesn’t it? I mean, when someone mentions something, or use a particular word that seems to stand out from all the other insignificant others they are spouting; it stands out for a reason. (Probably because you have affinity with a fricative, or you just happen to adore the word ‘crisp’)
Why?

[...]

Why?
I am interested in language flaws, not floors, and my overall interest in the friction between speech and written language is probably coinciding with my understanding of other visual and communicative languages. I have always been taken by the idea of authorship, ideas and notions and theorems, etc.
I can sepll grate and my good is grammar.
I constantly misspell and misuse words, all the thyme. I also like the idea of ‘proof reading’ on account of your brain not detecting fairly obvious errors in the same way a good friend or a spell checking codec in a word processor would.
Why?
A second opinion. I want to know what others may think on a subject. Going at something from one direction is not at all enlightening – if anything, the available information will be just a fragment of the whole package and thus, like us looking at a cuboid from face on and close up; if we utilize our friends who are perhaps figuratively situated at a different angle, sat observing the same subject from another direction, whilst eating cake and making a mess, then perhaps, when they finally stop munching and are able to tell you that it has apexes and numerous faces, and you may learn that there are other colours and textures and other information involved – as opposed to the plain square that will be visible to us at first, conceited glance. ‘More than meets the eye’ should be extended to more than meets the single eye.
This brings me to think of some inbuilt dysfunctional aspect, that we sometimes just happen to be content with not knowing everything- this can be enough to get us by, on a need to know basis. In a sense, we necessitate genuinity.
Why?

		<description>Joseph Welden &#38; Tim Stock

2009 saw the start of a series of collaborative pieces made with artist Tim Stock. The residues of this amalgamation turned out to be far removed from both individual practices. Both parties are interested in the notion of a forged counterpart or a new identity that occurs without warning or hesitation.

		<description>'Juneau Brothers'
Art Band project, multiple venues
Ongoing

Juneau Brothers is a music project by Ben Sadler and Phil Duckworth aka collaborative duo Juneau Projects; Joseph Welden provides percussive and vocal elements. The music of late has talked about the demise of public sculpture, pottery glazes, multifarious wildlife and being bored in the countryside.

Recent performances include events at Aldeburgh Music, Ceri Hand Gallery, Matt’s Gallery, Fierce and Flatpack Festival and LICA Lancaster.

"They are particularly interested in the rapidly increasing speed of technological development, and its associated obsolescence. Recent work has examined the overlap between performance as musicians, sculpture and installation. They have built a series of homemade devices which attempt to function as both sculpture and playable musical instrument." - Ceri Hand

		<description>

[...] The ideas of an indeterminate value or a flawed logic are what make up Joe Welden’s 'Sweating because you are fanning because you are sweating’. Composed of a series of ticks, crosses and empty boxes that make up an image of the artist as small boy doing press ups the work alludes to a struggle in process and with an immediate understanding of a flawed or fuzzy logic. The trophy like piece ‘DNF’, hovers somewhere between gargoyle and an ultimate chess piece. A Frankenstein’s monster of chess its total shared knowledge opens up an inconceivable amount of chess playing possibilities and in doing so seems to crash in itself as a system creating the potential of its own cyclical movements to be repeated ad infinitum [...] - Sean Edwards
